Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is banned. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel building that features a number of comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
