Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that contains a number of luxuries aside from the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
